I rank Ever
Hello, my name is John McGovern. I’m a national champion Olympic weightlifter, a Navy veteran, a videographer, and a casual gamer. In my life, I’ve lived several different roles in different states from training for the Olympics as a resident athlete at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, to hosting TV shows onboard two amphibious assault ships in the US Navy.
It's in these adventures that I’ve learned and felt a lot about strength training, service, sacrifice, sports psychology, imposter syndrome, heritage, self-enablement, and most importantly, about loving the journey even when it’s not so fun. And I’m no expert on any of those things, but I hope to make this a healthy stream of conscious that encourages readers simply as a matter of knowing they do not stand alone in their struggles.
So, what am I up to now? Currently, I’m a freelance videographer, who’s made so many mistakes along the way of starting my own business. I’m dealing with a back injury from my time at the Olympic Training Center and working to heal it up. And I’m also a full-time student in school, working to complete my associated in small business management – entrepreneurship while I’m applying to several universities for the fall semester of 2025. I’m fresh off a breakup, but I’m surprisingly excited for a period of my life where I focus on my goals and opportunities exclusively. There’s a lot that requires my attention this year, even as I sit down to write this, but I’m nervously excited for all of it.
Also, I was a big-time gamer (frankly still am when I don’t lock all my games away!), so I will be writing some blog entries that are a weird combination of my love for videogames and fitness at the same time. It’s a combination like chocolate and bacon; it’s not for everyone, but if that person is you, you love it. Let’s grow through it all together!
